First, the DPA 4099 sounds amazing. It captures the sound of my mandolin and banjo perfectly. Open and music; just the way I want it. However, the reason I'm providing a 3 point rating on this product is that the mounting system is poorly designed. When clamped down on my instruments the slide, which opens and closes on the side of the instrument, sticks out quite a bit.
Read moreThe result is that it keeps popping off when it hits my body. I finally had to pull out a saw and trim it to length. Super annoying for a $75+ clamp. I was hoping I could use the same microphone on both banjo and mandolin, but it needs two different sized adapters and I don't have time to switch back and forth on stage.
